ROONEY WILL STAY

The new manager of Manchester United, David Moyes, has given hints that Wayne Rooney will stay with the Red Devils in the next season.

There have been a lot of talks since the last couple of months that Rooney wants to leave Manchester United and he has even made a transfer request to the management. However, the English striker has always denied those reports.

Also, it is believed that the relationship between Rooney and Sir Alex Ferguson was getting worse and worse and that was the reason why Rooney wanted a transfer. But, now with Ferguson stepping down as United manager, Rooney might change his mind.

Currently, there are not too many top clubs which are interested in Rooney. The only club which he is said to be linked with is Paris Saint-Germain.

David Moyes is supposed to have a meeting with Rooney in a few days. In that meeting, Rooney’s future at United will be discussed.

However, the words that Moyes used for Rooney while talking to the reporters about him suggest that he doesn’t want the English forward to be put on sale.

When asked about Rooney, Moyes said, “There are not too many forwards in the world who are better than Rooney. He is superb, a real team man.”

“He is a street smart player. When I had seen him for the first time at Everton, I was stunned by his exceptional talent. Some of the things that he used to do in the training sessions were just unbelievable.”

Rooney had begun his career at Everton. He had played for the Toffees for a couple of years before being sold to Manchester United by David Moyes in 2004.

Rooney has so far featured for the Red Devils in 278 matches and has scored 141 goals.

ROONEY RULED OUT

Sir Alex Ferguson has said that Wayne Rooney is not likely to feature for the Red Devils in the upcoming Premier League match against the Queens Park Rangers which is going to be played at Loftus Road Stadium tomorrow.

Rooney didn’t play for United in their last match against Reading because of a sinus problem. According to Ferguson, Rooney is still struggling a bit with that problem and he is likely to miss the match against QPR.

Ferguson was talking to the reporters yesterday. When he was asked about the fitness of Rooney, he said, “Wayne is still not fully well. He is taking medicines. He attended the training session yesterday, but, he didn’t do much. He will probably begin full training today, but, I don’t think he is going to get fit for the match against QPR.”

Ferguson also said that he is trying to convince Nani to stay at United till the completion of his contract. There have been a few reports that Nani wants to leave United at the end of this season because of the lack of starting opportunities.

When asked about Nani, Ferguson said, “We want Nani to continue playing for us until his contract gets finished. But, the fact is that he wants regular starting opportunities. It’s up to him to cement his place in the starting line up. If he continues playing as well as he played against Reading the other day, he will definitely be able to cement his place in the starting line up.”

“I have talked to him about this a few times. I am trying to convince him to stay. But, it’s him who has to take the final decision.”

Nani had signed for Manchester United in 2007. He has featured for United in 133 matches so far and has scored 26 goals.

ROONEY EXCITED AT MATCHES

The Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has admitted that there are three fixtures that he looks forward to most when the Premier league fixture list is announced at the start of the season. He has said that he always looks forward to the matches against Liverpool, Everton, and Manchester city. The England striker has endured a lot of success in these fixtures over the last few seasons, but his desire to beat the rivals has never diminished. The striker was once again at his best in recent Manchester derby by scoring two goals and helping the club to a 3-2 victory over their arch rivals.

However, he has since missed the last three days of training and also a book signing session due to a virus problem. Rooney has been criticised this season for not matching the goal tally of the new striker Robin van Persie, who has already scored 15 goals in all competitions this season. However, he raised his bar once again in the match against Manchester city by scoring the first two goals. Even though United lost the advantage in the second half to Manchester city, they were able to get all three points courtesy of the late winner from Robin van Persie.

United lost in the first match of the season against Rooney’s former club Everton. “When the fixtures come out, I look for three games – City, Liverpool and Everton. This time I checked the Sunderland game. If there is one team that I want to beat this season, it will be Sunderland. When the final whistle went, we didn’t really know what the score at City was. This time I checked the Sunderland game. If there is one team that I want to beat this season, it will be Sunderland,” said Rooney ahead of the match with Sunderland.

ROONEY HAILS RVP

Wayne Rooney has hailed his teammate and former Arsenal skipper Robin Van Persie for his brilliant performance in the current season so far and said that the Dutch striker is the new superstar of the team. Robin Van Persie has joined the team this summer and he has performed sensationally well for the Red Devils so far. He has featured for United in 14 matches in the ongoing season and has found the net on 11 occasions.

Persie has been the hero of a lot of United victories in this season. In the recently played Champions League match against Barga, United was trailed by 0-1 at one point of time. Van Persie was brought on to the field on the place of Dany Welbeck and the Dutch striker delivered. He scored the equaliser for his team and brought United back into the match. United won the match by a profound margin of 3-1. With that victory, United topped its group and also made its way into the final 16.

When asked about the performance of Robin Van Persie, Rooney said, “He has been fantastic so far. He has rescued us from many difficult situations.  He is an impact player and it’s always good to have such players in the team. He can win the match single handedly on his day.”

“Persie’s most incredible quality is his calmness. He never gets carried away. He always remains focussed and that’s why he has been so successful in the recent times. He is certainly the new superstar of Manchester United”

“We have a very good chance to win the Champions League this time around. We have got some great impact players who can change the complexion of any match.”

Manchester United’s next match will be a Premier League encounter against Aston Villa on Saturday at Villa Park.

NOT AN EASY MATCH

The Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has told Man Utd news that he is not expecting an easy match when his club take on Tottenham in the Premier League during the weekend. Manchester United will be coming into this match on the back of a good run of form that has seen them move just a point behind the leaders Chelsea in the table.

However, they will have a stern test this weekend according to the striker Wayne Rooney, who recently returned to first team action after more than a month on the sidelines. The player is not expected to start the match due to the presence of Robin Van Persie.

The club recently secured the signature of the Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie for a fee of £24 million. He has already shown the reason for Manchester United showing a faith in a 29-year-old player after he has been crucial in the wins against Fulham and Southampton. He also scored the winning penalty against Liverpool last weekend. This has meant that Wayne Rooney is no longer the automatic first choice striker at the club. The player, though, has said that he is extremely happy with the competition for places at the club.

“We always seem to do well against Tottenham. Hopefully that will continue. Tottenham are a good team with great players. We know it will be tough and we will need to be at our best to beat them. The most important thing is the result. We would like to play a little bit better and not concede as many goals as we have early in the season. It is something we have been working on. Hopefully it will happen for us,” Rooney told PA Sport. Tottenham have not won a match at Old Trafford in the Premier League era.

Rooney and Robin Van Persie partnership?

With speculation linking the wantaway Arsenal captain with a move to rivals Manchester United gathering pace, this potential partnership could be the key to bringing glory to the Red Devils once again following an uncharacteristic trophyless season last term.

The Dutchman cited a lack of silverware at the Emirates as his reason to leave, having won only one FA Cup since joining the North London side in 2004, and will jealously admire Rooney’s haul of four Premier League titles, two League Cups and on Champions League in that time.

The Liverpool-born forward has been a key player for United since his arrival and played an integral part in winning all of those trophies, being the only truly reliable goalscorer in the Manchester United squad since the departure of Ruud van Nistlerooy, as players like Dimitar Berbatov and more recently Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck have at times struggled to provide a consistent goal output.

Rooney’s haul of 27 league goals last season was the largest of his career at the club, and was second only to Van Persie throughout the division.

Consequentially, the Old Trafford faithful will undoubtedly be relishing the prospect of the two forwards linking up to form a deadly partnership should United beat off interest from the likes of Juventus and cross-city rivals Manchester City to secure a deal for the Dutchman.

With or without Van Persie, Rooney will be the figurehead of the United attack, and with Nani, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and new signing Shinji Kagawa all players known for their ability to create goalscoring chances, Rooney could very well face another profitable season in front of goal.

As a result, Rooney is currently bookmakers’ favourite to seal the Golden Boot for the first time in his career, and Sir Alex Ferguson will be hopeful that his star player will lead the side to a twentieth Premier League victory.

DIFFICULT FOR ROONEY

The coach of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson, has said that it was very difficult for Wayne Rooney to give his best in the Euro Cup 2012. He said that he didn’t go into the quarter final match with enough practice. Rooney has been criticized a lot due to his poor performance in the quarter final match against Italy.

Rooney wasn’t able to play in the first two group matches against France and Sweden due to the suspension. He returned to play the third match against Ukraine and scored a goal in that match. But, in the quarter final match against Italy, his performance was not up to the mark. England lost that match against Italy. Ferguson said that Rooney is that kind of a player who needs two or three matches to get into his groove. If he would have played in all the three group matches, his performance against Italy might not be as poor as it was. So, he should not be blamed much. On being asked about the hype around Rooney, Ferguson said that the great players always have hype around them, but, they must know how to deal with it.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney himself has said that the Euro Cup is history now and he wants to concentrate on the upcoming season. He said that a player can’t give his best in every match. The match against Italy was one of those matches in which he was not able to perform according to his potential. He is feeling very sorry not to have stood up to the expectations of the people of his country. It obviously was pretty disappointing, but, he wants to forget that match now. As per Rooney, he just wants to concentrate on his role for Manchester United at the moment.
